After the recent wave of migration to the United States, especially of citizens from Cuba, Venezuela and Nicaragua, the Humanitarian Association for Human Rights (ADDDHH), based in Costa Rica, warns about the “dangerousness” that migration implies, especially in transit for Mexico.
“Migration is a high-risk activity. On their way, people face being detained, being victims of various crimes, paying large sums of money and even losing their lives,” warns AHDDHH.

They also recommend looking for humanitarian organizations that can provide support to the situation that migrants are going through, and not using “polleros” or people who offer to travel in secret.
Concern for Nicaraguan migrants
In interview with Article 66the lawyer and international representative of the AHDDHH, Edgar Zavaleta Floresin Mexico, explained that the Humanitarian Association has seen the difficulty “that the Nicaraguan brothers go through who travel to the United States and pass through Mexico.”

He stressed that the intention of the entity is to be able to provide advice at no cost and “above all that -migrants- have a helping hand here in Mexico.”
Regarding the number of Nicaraguan migrants who have been victims of extortion or kidnapping, Zavaleta indicated that for the safety of citizens, they have tried to keep it secret.
“Being able to release this data would put migrants at risk and, above all, put their families on alert, because there are times when there may be information that they have been kidnapped or murdered and that is a lie; sometimes migrants find themselves doing some kind of work in order to earn money and continue on their way,” he added.
They call to maintain good conduct in Mexico
Another of the recommendations provided by the legal representative of AHDDHH is that migrants transiting through Mexico go to a health center, “because many arrive dehydrated or with health problems.”
“We also suggest that they approach the shelters that are duly registered,” insisted the lawyer, who said that the places where migrants can request help will be announced soon.
