Human rights organizations mourned the death of Alvaro Conrado Avendanofather of Alvarito Conrado Davilaassassinated on April 20, 2018 during the government crackdown on protesters.
Don Álvaro Conrado, who was president of the Mothers of April Association (AMA), died on the night of Friday, January 27, in a Managua hospital after fainting.
“We embrace and accompany the family of Don Álvaro and AMA in this moment of pain, who have been permanently demanding justice together with the relatives of those murdered by the Ortega Murillo regime. It still hurts to breathe. We continue in the fight for truth and justice,” said the Human Rights Collective Nicaragua Never Again.
Through a mournful note they expressed that “they honor their tireless struggle” and with their example of “fortitude and courage” they will continue to demand justice and the non-repetition of human rights crimes in Nicaragua.
Erika Guevara Rosasdirector for the Americas of Amnesty International, wrote on Twitter that she receives the news of the death “with deep sadness.”

Álvaro Conrado maintained his demand for justice for the death of his son Alvarito for years. The adolescent’s phrase “it hurts to breathe” was the emblem of the civic struggle of Nicaraguans and of the campaign that Conrado carried out for a while; until the repression, siege and persecution of the regime forced him to lower his profile.
Conrado is one more family member who dies without getting justice for his son’s murder.
