The president of the Chamber of Deputies, Hugo Motta (Republicanos-PB), said this Sunday (26) that dialogue and diplomacy have returned to relations between Brazil and the United States.
The demonstration was publicized on social media after the meeting between President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva and President Donald Trumpin Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
“I congratulate Presidents Lula and Trump on today’s important meeting. I am happy to see that dialogue and diplomacy are once again at the center of relations between Brazil and the United States. When leaders choose to talk, History is grateful. It was like this in the great turning points of the world, always through words, never through silence. The Chamber remains at the disposal of our diplomacy, voting on important issues on the subject and committed to serving the country”, said Motta.
More repercussions
After the meeting, government parliamentarians also took to social media to celebrate the beginning of dialogue between the Brazilian and North American governments.
Senator Jaques Wagner (PT-BA) said that the meeting demonstrated the defense of the country’s sovereignty.
“Dialogue always! Negotiations on tariffs have advanced, and the tone of the conversation was one of respect and cooperation. President Lula showed, once again, why he is one of the greatest statesmen of our time, always open to dialogue, but extremely firm in defending our sovereignty and that of the Brazilian people”, said the senator.
Senator Humberto Costa (PT-PE) considered that the meeting between the presidents is “a victory for the Brazilian people”.
“Against all expectations, sovereignty and national interest prevail. President Lula meets with Donald Trump in a cordial and productive meeting. Focus on a balanced trade agreement. A victory for the Brazilian people and our diplomacy”, he commented.
