The businessman Hugo Espino Lucana did not attend today the summons of the anti-corruption prosecutor Jony Peña, who opened an investigation with the first lady Lilia Paredes and his sister Yenifer Paredes for offering works in Cajamarca on behalf of the company JJM Espino.
Espino had made an appointment for 9:30 am; however, as also happened with the sister-in-law of President Pedro Castillo, he did not respond to the call from the Public Ministry. So far the whereabouts of the minor of the Paredes Navarro is not known. Peru21 reported today that the Police He has not received any follow-up requests for the 26-year-old.
On July 4, the Public Ministry opened the preliminary investigation after the Sunday Fourth Power revealed a video from September 2021, in Chadín (Cajamarca), where Yenifer Paredes appears recommending JJM Espino Engineering & Construction -Hugo Espino’s company- to take charge of a sanitation work.

Paredes, who was wearing a vest from his friend’s company, was accompanied by Espino and other characters. One of the first proceedings of the Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office was to go to the Government Palace for a document display procedure, carried out in the presidential headquarters’ guest book. The meeting between Espino and the spouse of the head of state took place on August 8, 2021. Espino re-entered the Government Palace -between last August and October- on another 4 occasions, of which 2 met with Yenifer Paredes.
Last Friday, Lilia Paredes appeared before prosecutor Jony Peña for more than three hours. Benji Espinoza, the first lady’s lawyer, affirmed that her sponsor answered all the questions and denied that she had met with Hugo Espino, despite the fact that it is recorded in the Transparency portal.
