The Hudbay company announced the temporary plant closure in mine Proof, located in Chumbivilcas (Cusco), as a consequence of protests and blockages that have interrupted the company’s operations.
“Like other mines in the South Mining Corridor, the Hudbay Constance mine has been affected by local protests and illegal blockages,” said the mining company through a statement.
He also assured that the priority is the security of the personnel in the mine, so he pointed out that with this the authorities are given time to address the problem that has arisen.
Meanwhile, Hudbay reported that it will take advantage of the inactivity time to perform preventive maintenance of the mill and, potentially, advance part of the planned maintenance by the end of this year.
“We will continue to collaborate with the government and legal authorities to interact with the protesters and achieve a prompt resolution that allows operations to return to normal as soon as possible,” he said.
The company also pointed out that social protests “occur occasionally” and that since the beginning of operations in 2014 they have concentrated on working with local stakeholders to guarantee successful and sustainable long -term operations.
“Hudbay has forged solid relations with communities close to constancy and undertakes to be a safe and responsible operator, in addition to contributing significantly in the long term to the prosperity of local and regional communities,” he said.
