Carrying out procedures in the National Registry of Identification and Civil Status (Reniec) has become a headache for thousands of Huancaínos who go to the headquarters on Av. Mariscal Castilla every day. Processing an electronic DNI, requesting a change of address or renewing an expired document means losing a full work day; a day that will be repeated weeks later, when the document is ready for delivery.
WAIT
From 4:00 am—sometimes even earlier—hundreds begin to line up to be the first to complete the procedures; The service, however, only begins at 8:45 am and will last only until 4:45 pm
“We are losing a working day; they have to attend at least from 7:00 in the morning. I work and I have lost five hours waiting”says Raquel, who yesterday went to Reniec to request a duplicate ID and was assisted just after 11:00 am.
People wait in chairs rented for a sun: first bundled up against the cold of the early morning and then they must endure the heat at midday. “I work in agriculture, friend; I have had to suspend my work. I’m going to have to waste my time another day to come pick up.”laments farmer Enrique Ruiz, who also came to request a duplicate.
Enduring the cold of the early morning or the heat of midday, citizens consider their work day lost.
SCHEDULE
Reniec enforces its schedule to the letter: they open at 8:45 am and close, without fail, at 4:45 pm, no matter how many have not reached space.
We tried to obtain a release from the Zonal Headquarters; However, the answer was that “that is coordinated with Lima”. However, they confirmed that they carry out 1,200 services per day (600 requests and 600 document deliveries). These days, demand has increased and thousands come to process their documents.
