Insecurity keeps the residents of Sicaya, province of Huancayo, on alert. Neighbors of the La Libertad neighborhood reported that six individuals entered a mother’s home to rob, but were discovered thanks to the quick reaction of the community.

Although the alleged criminals managed to escape, the neighbors found a suspicious vehicle linked to the incident and set it on fire as a sign of outrage. They also reported that in recent weeks there have been multiple robberies with the same modus operandi, affecting homes, machinery and university students.

Citizens blame the lack of public lighting and police patrols for the increase in crimes. In response, Mayor Oliver Chanca reported that neighborhood patrols are being organized together with the National Police and the security services, in addition to providing legal advice to the victims.
The population demands urgent and coordinated measures to stop crime that, they say, “is plaguing the district without control.”
