A group of mothers from the Santa María Reyna educational institution, secondary level, held a protest outside the campus in rejection of the classroom draw that the management had announced for the 2026 school year.
The protesters expressed their disagreement with the possible reorganization of sections, considering that this measure could generate emotional effects on the students. “The entire classroom has worked to raise funds for the promotion of the girls who are now moving on to 5th grade, it is not fair that they are separated now; they have been together since primary school and are like sisters”said a mother of a 4th grade secondary school student.
As explained by the director of the institution, Jhonny Rojas, the proposal contemplated the formation of collaborative exchange groups, through which the students would change classmates and teachers at the beginning of the 3rd and 5th years of secondary school in 2026. “The purpose was to allow the students to interact with new classmates and teachers, facing new challenges in their school life”stated the authority. However, the announcement generated discomfort among parents, who even blocked entry to the campus on the closing day of the 2025 school year, causing a delay of approximately two hours in the ceremony scheduled for 9 in the morning.
After the dialogue between authorities and parents, the management decided to go back on the measure and cancel the classroom draw. The director of the institution specified that it was decided to annul the reorganization, although with commitments made by the parents. “We are going back on the decision-making process regarding this measure, but with the commitment that parents, in the data update on February 5, sign a commitment document to assume their responsibility for permanent support of teachers and the educational process.”he declared.
Finally, the director indicated that the groups will continue as they have been working to date, as long as the parents comply with the established agreements. The mothers, for their part, agreed with what was agreed, prioritizing the emotional stability of the students and guaranteeing the continuity of the school year without the combination of sections.
