Huancayo: Huancán celebrates 70 years of political creation, although needs such as water persist

Huancán received its 70th institutional anniversary with one of its main needs still unresolved: access to drinking water. Mayor Franklin Rosales recognized that this is “an old problem” that affects thousands of families. “50% of the district consumes through Sedam Huancayo, but they do not cover 100%,” he stated, pointing out that the municipality must cover the rest through the Municipal Management Unit (UGM).

The sectors that still lack service, according to the mayor, are Alata, Amazonas, jirón 28 de Julio, part of Santa Rosa and the Huari town center. “We as a local government often take on this problem of drinking water”Rosales indicated.

For this reason, they announced that they are managing an IOARR project to expand the collection system and build a reservoir valued at more than S/ 8 million, which will be located in the upper part of the Independencia neighborhood.

In citizen security, another sensitive issue for residents, the municipality is moving forward with the installation of biocameras. “In November they will already be implemented”he declared, adding that they are negotiating with the Ministry of the Interior to expand coverage. Financing is also pending for the expansion of the general cemetery, one of the oldest demands.

Rosales highlighted that the district has made important progress in road infrastructure. Huancán went from having only 5% of its roads paved to nearly 40%. “Today we are already reaching more than 200 paved blocks”he stated. Among the works, the road improvement in the Porvenir neighborhood, Los Incas Avenue, Santa Rosa, Alfonso Ugarte, Jirón Junín and the upcoming tender for the Jirón Sucre, for more than S/ 47 million, stand out.

The district, which today exceeds 32 thousand inhabitants, has grown rapidly due to migration. “Approximately 70% of our population is migrant from Huancavelica, Ayacucho, Cerro de Pasco and the jungle”explained the mayor. “This cultural diversity coexists with the identity that distinguishes us as the land of the cuchicaldos, the capital of embroidery and huaylarsh huanca”he added.
