Huancayo: During a cleaning day they remove more than a ton of waste from the Shullcas River

More than a ton of solid waste was removed from the Shullcas River during a cleaning day organized by the Provincial Municipality of Huancayo (MPH), in coordination with the National University of Central Peru (UNCP), as part of the “Mantaro River Month.”

The activity covered five kilometers in the Vilcacoto sector and had the participation of more than 50 students and staff from the Public Services Management, who also raised awareness among residents about the penalties for throwing garbage or sewage into the tributary.

The day included waste collection, segregation and transportation tasks, as well as door-to-door environmental education campaigns. Representatives of the Environmental Management area reported that fines for polluting the river range between 2% and 50% of the Tax Tax Unit (UIT), depending on the severity of the infraction.

The manager of Public Services, Jhansell Espinoza Cárdenas, highlighted that these joint actions between the commune and the university seek “strengthen environmental awareness and citizen commitment to cleaning the Shullcas River, a vital resource for Huancayo”. Likewise, he announced that the next interventions will be carried out in other critical sections of the tributary.
