Huancayo, known as the “Happiest City in Peru,” is the second nationally with the highest rate of crime victims according to the number of inhabitants. This is according to the latest bulletin of the National Police with information from the National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI) from January to November 7.

Juliaca (Puno) is in first place with 43.3% and is followed by Huancayo with 43%. In terms of perception of insecurity, we occupy 17th place nationally with 79.8%, in this last aspect Huancavelica leads with 92.1%, followed by Lima with 89.9%, Callao with 88.5%, Ayacucho with 86.8%, Pasco with 76.2% and Huánuco 72%.
But, if we talk about the rate of crime incidence in crimes against property, the Lima Police Region (8,910,109) occupies first place, followed by La Libertad (1,846), Lambayeque (1,339), Piura (1,310), Arequipa ( 1185) and (1051) Junín.
Plans and prevention
Given these figures, the new manager of Citizen Security of the Provincial Municipality of Huancayo, Nicolás Galván, explained that some measures are being taken to stop the increase in crime.
“Since I joined 15 days ago, I have been coordinating with the Huancayo commissioner, PNP commander Muñoz. An addendum was made to the agreement to resume surveillance of security cameras, so that 15 police officers support motorcycle patrols in critical locations; “We are coordinating with the neighborhood councils for surveillance and tours and finally, documents are being sent to Electrocentro to change the lights,” the official mentioned.
Regarding projections that the Huanca commune has, it is the implementation of more police stations.
“We are starting a study so that Huancayo has 4 sectorized police stations that should be in San Carlos, Cooperativa Santa Isabel Ocopilla and Cajas Chico, this would occur in areas of contribution of the municipality,” Galván noted.
To increase patrolling, it was estimated that 24 administrators who were hired at the MPH as security guards will return to their positions.
