Huancavelica: Two workers buried in a landslide at a construction site

At approximately 8:15 on Wednesday, August 28, in the district of Ascensión, province of Huancavelica, two workers died buried after the collapse of a wall and an earthen slope, at a construction site near the reservoir. Three other people were also buried in the middle of the earth, but were rescued in time.

After the accident, the National Police, Firefighters, security guards and workers, with shovels and picks, began to remove the earth to help the two workers, while the stunned and tearful residents asked for help. Unfortunately, the landslide was so big that it took a while to find the two bodies.

While waiting for the arrival of the Public Prosecutor’s Office, the relatives, in the midst of a scene of pain, identified the deceased victims as Marcos Espinoza (36) and Zósimo Arias (44), one of them a workers’ leader, who leaves six children orphaned. The relatives claimed the working conditions, since according to their colleagues there was alleged negligence by the resident and the person responsible for security at the construction site.

The Labor Department, SAMU personnel arrived at the scene to deal with the illness of the relatives, and Councilor Adriana Oloya, who stated that the work was being carried out by direct administration and that those responsible were appointed by the infrastructure and works area of ​​the municipality, who are currently inspecting them.
