Huaico destroys a key bridge and isolates towns in the Moquegua mountain range

A huaico destroyed the El Pedregal bridge in the Quinistaquillas district, General Sánchez Cerro province, in the Moquegua region.

The collapse occurred in the upper area after intense rains, and the force of the flow completely washed away the infrastructure.

The landslide occurred after the activation of the El Volcán stream, which generated the dragging of mud and stones.

The bridge allowed the connection of Quinistaquillas with other towns on the route to Arequipa, so several communities in the upper part were cut off.

In addition, intense rains are reported in districts such as Torata, Caruma, Cuchumbaya, Ubinas, Coalaque, Tonoaya and Puquina. This situation has affected traffic on the road that connects Moquegua, Omate and Arequipa, with vehicle restrictions in different sections.
