Currently, there are a series of digital frauds which can lead to you losing your money. One of these crimes is phishing, for which the Superintendency of Banking, Insurance and AFP (SBS) indicates that the criminal simulates company communications to obtain our information such as personal or financial data.
“You receive a false message like this: ‘We have detected suspicious activity in your account, enter here’. Do not enter the link. Preferably contact your financial institution to verify the message. Do not provide your personal information,” the entity stated.
Roberto Percca, Entrepreneur Development Manager and specialist at Mibanco’s Financial Office, explained that now scammers use WhatsApp to capture their victims.
“Messages that appear to be from a supplier, the bank or even a known contact can include false links or requests for information that end up emptying accounts or obtaining sensitive and private data,” he indicated.
The expert recommended not sharing password, PIN, token, SMS codes, or the CVV of the card through this application. You should also avoid sending a photo of your plastic money and ID.
In addition, he suggested being careful with WhatsApp calls, as he pointed out that cybercriminals use this modality to request the “code that you received” with the pretext of validating the identity of the victim.
“This code is not innocent: it is used to take control of your WhatsApp account and use it to scam your contacts or even authorize banking operations that you do not want,” he explained.
