A new year is about to begin and, with it, the opportunity to organize the personal finance. Jorge Guillén, professor at ESAN Graduate School of Business, recommended that, to start 2026 with everything structured, it is necessary not to exceed Christmas and year-end expenses.
“If you are going to pay with a credit card, do not do it in many installments. So, if, for example, we buy something that is going to require six installments, we must take into account that in March the expenses for school, university or some others come that can be combined with the payments for December purchases,” he explained.
In addition, he indicated that it is a good time to start allocating 10% of income to savings. Something that cannot be missing in this new year, as indicated, is that a budget be made that includes income and expenses. In this case, purchases of small things should also be considered, which can add up to a lot.
“It is always important to write down expenses to have order,” he commented. This can be done in a notebook, an Excel table or some applications.
A mistake that is also made when organizing finances is making plans with money that has not yet been received. Therefore, it is advisable to have the deposit to spend it again, unless it is a fixed income.
