The novelty was confirmed this Wednesday to The Observer by Fernando Andrade, president of the Uruguayan Association of Pig Producers (AUPC).

The AUPC was created in 2004 and its commercial arm is the Uruguayan Limited Agricultural Cooperative of Pig Producers (Caluprocerd).created in 2012 and whose main buyers are the Ministry of the Interior, for food in prisons, and the Ministry of Defense, to feed the military.
In both cases, the cooperative markets by participating in tenders or through price competition with other suppliers, as appropriate, instances in which Caluprocerd has been “very competitive,” he said.
It has also marketed pigs for the firm Camposur and supplies (rations) for the firm Granja Mi Familia, given that the cooperative’s operations include the preparation and distribution of rations (at its facilities in San Jacinto, Canelones), based on corn grains that are imported from Argentina and other components.
Andrade highlighted that the management brings together some 180 pig producers located in areas of 14 of the departments of Uruguay.
