How the pocino sector took the landing of a Spanish giant in Uruguay

The novelty was confirmed this Wednesday to The Observer by Fernando Andrade, president of the Uruguayan Association of Pig Producers (AUPC).

As he commented, The proposal of the meeting arose from the company and caused satisfaction and expectation among the producers grouped in the AUPC, who are mostly rural or suburban and family-scale entrepreneurs, distributed in productive farms in different areas of the national territory..

In any case, he specified after being consulted on how they evaluate the aforementioned investment, “We do not have an official position until we have that meeting and we know the details of the project of the new company”.

Andrade, in that case from the personal, observes in a good way that there is an investment in the sector, that this means that jobs are maintained and even generated and that this establishes at least the expectation of possible demands for pig producers.

Fernando Andrade, in the facilities of his productive property, in Canelones.

So far, he stated, La Constancia supplies its industrial plant, located on route 65, near Pando, with its own production of pigs.

Considering that the objective of the investment is to increase production and focus mainly on exporting, It is highly likely that the demand for raw material will increase and in this context, buying from local producers is an alternative..

Andrade highlighted the quality of local production, based on health security, efficient genetic lines and nutritional quality.

The AUPC was created in 2004 and its commercial arm is the Uruguayan Limited Agricultural Cooperative of Pig Producers (Caluprocerd).created in 2012 and whose main buyers are the Ministry of the Interior, for food in prisons, and the Ministry of Defense, to feed the military.

In both cases, the cooperative markets by participating in tenders or through price competition with other suppliers, as appropriate, instances in which Caluprocerd has been “very competitive,” he said.

It has also marketed pigs for the firm Camposur and supplies (rations) for the firm Granja Mi Familia, given that the cooperative’s operations include the preparation and distribution of rations (at its facilities in San Jacinto, Canelones), based on corn grains that are imported from Argentina and other components.

Andrade highlighted that the management brings together some 180 pig producers located in areas of 14 of the departments of Uruguay.
