One of the main proposals of the Minister of Labor of the Petro government, Gloria Inés Ramírez, is that the night shift is from 6 in the afternoon.
(Overtime and night surcharges: how they work today).
Although the working day will continue to be eight hours a day, the night surcharge would begin to be applied from 6 pm and not from 9 pm as is currently the case.
(Control of contracts and working hours, proposals from the Ministry of Labor).
If so, according to the head of this portfolio, the nightly surcharge would be applied on 35% of what is paid today per hour, that is, $1,458 more.
“If an hour is worth 4,166 pesos and a 35% surcharge is added, it would be 1,458 pesos more per hour, that is equivalent to 5,624 pesos and it is only three hours, then the worker would earn 4,000 pesos more*, approximately. That is why it is very important that together, businessmen and employees, we work because this means well-being”, said Ramírez in an interview with Blu Radio.
And he added that the employer is the one who decides whether or not it requires workers to stay longer working.
(The employment challenges that the new government will have).
It is worth remembering that the minister, on several occasions, has pointed out that these measures are so that the labor rights of Colombians, such as rest or study, are not violated.
