In the Elections Regional and Municipal 2024, which took place on October 26 and 27 throughout the country, numerous citizens played essential roles to ensure the correct development of the electoral process. Among them were table members, delegates of electoral boards and assistants, designated by the Electoral Service (Servel). These collaborators are essential to maintain transparency and efficiency in the elections, which implies great responsibility and dedicated work hours. In this context, Servel has proposed that an additional bonus be delivered to recognize the efforts of these officials.
On October 29, the Servel formally requested the Executive to evaluate the possibility of implementing this additional bonus. This request was presented through letters addressed to important figures in the Government, such as the head of the General Secretariat of the Presidency, Álvaro Elizalde, and the Minister of Finance, Mario Marcel.
The amount of bond The additional amount that Servel has proposed is 1 Unidad de Fomento (UF), which is equivalent to approximately $38,000 in Chilean pesos. This benefit would be intended not only for table members, but also for delegates and assistants who worked on election day in October. The measure arises at a time when it seeks to motivate and reward those citizens who assume this voluntary role, which is essential for the development of elections in the country.
Furthermore, the Servel has requested that this bonus be also granted to those who fulfill these roles in the second round of the 2024 Elections, scheduled for November 24 in 11 regions of the country. This second election day will require a similar organization, so it is expected that the additional bonus will help ensure adequate participation of members and other collaborators in this key stage of the elections.
Although this bond additional is still being evaluated, table members and other collaborators already have an approved payment of 2/3 of UF per day for their work on October 26 and 27. This payment represents approximately $50,000 for both days, an initial recognition for the work done. However, Servel considers that the additional bonus could be a fair economic incentive, given the relevance of its functions.
