How much was the salary of the congressmen, after the last increase

On August 4, Decree 1546 was signed.which authorizes the salary increase for Colombian congressmen, which will be dand 2.61% and will be paid retroactively from January.

(Rights and objections that congressmen see to the tax reform).

Thus, the monthly allocation of the members of the Congress of the Republic will increase $898,313, taking into account that today the net salary of a congressman is $34,418,133.

In that order of ideas they will win $35,316,133as established by the decree signed by former President Iván Duque.

As it is a retroactive payment, in the next payroll payment, members of Congress would receive around 6 million pesos, corresponding to the payments of the increase from the month of January.

The salary increase corresponds to 2021. As is known, the decree was ready at the beginning of this year. However, it had not been approved by the Ministry of Finance, nor signed by the head of state.

(Wage gap? This will win congressmen close to possession).

The salary of congressmen is divided into three categories. The first is the basic monthly allowance, which with the current increase is $8,539,197 pesos.. In addition to that, by law, they are entitled to representation expenses, which is an amount assigned to those who have high ranks in the state. The value of this aspect, with the increase of 2.61%, is $15,180,000 pesos.

They are also entitled to a service premium, which with the recently decreed increase will come to $11,596,448 pesos.

THE OTHER SALARIES OF CONGRESS

The salary increase of Senators and Representatives is different from that of public officials who work in the National Capitol. These servers received, in March of this year, an increase of 7.26%, as stated in decree 455 of the 29th of that month of 2022.

This increase was applied, among others, to four positions of high importance in the legislative power: the general secretaries of the Senate (a position held since 2012 by Gregorio Eljach Pacheco) and of the Chamber (held since that same year by Jorge Humberto Mantilla Serrano), who today have a salary allocation of $19,798,700 pesos per month. The decree states that these two public servants are also entitled to a “monthly management premium” equivalent to $2,319,903 pesos.

The two administrative directors receive the same salary: Astrid Salamanca in the Senate (re-elected since 2012) and John Abuid Ramírez Barrientos (in office since 2020). For these two public servants, the management premium is $1,899,017 pesos.

(This is how the new Congress of Colombia is distributed).

The decree also establishes a salary of $15,526,804 pesos for the secretaries of each of the seven Constitutional and Legal Commissions of both corporations, as well as a bonus of $1,903,253 pesos.

All these positions also receive a monthly technical bonus conditioned, among other things, to a good rating in their performance evaluation. This bonus can be up to 50% of the monthly salary.

This, in addition “of the service premiums, vacations, Christmas and the bonus for services rendered, established for the employees of the Executive Branch of the Public Power at the national level”, states the official decree.

The bonus for services rendered refers to “an amount equivalent to four times the monthly remuneration made up of the basic allowance plus representation expenses, payable in two equal cashes on June thirty (30) and December thirty (30) of the respective year”according to decree 2699 of 2012.
