The State, through the three electricity distribution companies (EDE) and the Dominican Corporation of State Electric Companies (cdeee), owed the generating companies, as of last December, almost 218 million dollars for the sale of energy and power.
As of the last month of 2021, the three EDEs owed different generators 72.6 million dollars, with the AES Dominicana group and Empresa Generadora de Electricidad Haina (EGEHaina) being the two largest creditors of the distributors.
To the AES Dominicana group, the Edenorte, Edesur and Edeeast They owed 40 million dollars as of December last year, equivalent to 55.1% of the total debt of the three companies, according to the sector’s performance report, prepared by the cdeee.
Meanwhile, the distributors owed EGEHaina 22.2 million dollars, which represented 30.6% of the total owed by the three companies to the generators. The EDEs had credit commitments with both generators for 62.2 million dollars.
The remaining 10.4 million dollars that the distributors owed to the generators were distributed among the Parque Eólico del Caribe (1.4 million dollars), Palamara (1.2 million dollars), Aguas Claras (1.2 million dollars) and Montecristi Solar (1 million dollars). dollars), among others.

Between January and December 2021, the state electricity distribution companies bought 2,082.3 million dollars from generators, a figure that represented a growth of 21.4% compared to the previous year when the amount reached 1,715.1 million dollars, equivalent to an increase net of 367.2 million dollars.
The Edeeast It was the distributor that registered the highest growth, in percentage terms, in electricity purchases in 2021, with an increase of 26% compared to the previous year (145.7 million dollars more), totaling 706 million dollars.
This was followed by Edesura company that purchased 742.9 million dollars in energy in 2021, for an increase of 20.9% compared to 2020. Edenorte totaled 633.4 million dollars for the same concept, for an increase of 17.2%.
Among other factors, the increase in the purchase of electricity by the EDEs was influenced by the fact that the average price went from 10.94 cents of a dollar per kilowatt-hour that it registered in 2020 to 12.54 last year, representing an increase of 1.60 cents of a dollar the kilowatt hour.
