Yacimientos Petroliferos Fiscales Bolivianos (YPFB) reported that until January 21, it exported 69,703 tons of urea for a value of 43.8 million dollars. The official figures reported by the National Institute of Statistics (INE) as of November last year account for eight million dollars. The president of YPFB, Armín Dorgathen, explained on the state media network that the Ammonia and Urea Plant (PAU) generated 60 million dollars from the sale of urea in three reactivation months in 2021, while the operating costs of the factory were reduced to 44 million dollars/year.

“In the last three months of 2021, the plant produced income of 60 million dollars, it is true that the operation costs 44 million dollars, but with three months of income that is paid for,” he remarked.

He added that it is expected that the estimated income from the sale of urea in the domestic and foreign markets for the 2022 management will reach 300 million dollars.

According to a YPFB statement, until January 21 of this year, 29,587.6 tons were sold in the domestic market and 69,703 tons in the foreign market.

This makes a total of 99,290 tons.

For this concept, the state oil company maintains that 16.1 million dollars were generated from the sale in the internal market and 43.8 million dollars in the foreign market. That makes a total revenue of $59.9 million.

The information published by the INE is eight million dollars exported from granulated urea as of November 2021 (page 11 of the Comex Foreign Trade bulletin as of December 2021) and that is available on its website and in which figures for each are detailed. one of the products that Bolivia exports and imports from the world.

According to YPFB, last year the sale of fertilizer abroad reached 37.3 million dollars and to the domestic market 14.7 million dollars. In total, sales in the past administration reached 52.1 million dollars.

Dorghaten admitted that there are scheduled and maintenance stoppages at the plant, but he announced that the population will be able to observe live the operation of the factory, which this year will generate 300 million dollars in revenue.

“Each time we have the issue that the plant stopped, so we are going to install some cameras that will be able to observe whether the plant is working or not through live streaming, and with that we are going to stop speculating if the plant is working or not working”, highlighted the executive.

He explained that the plant, after being stopped for a year, like a car left outdoors, will often present failures in some equipment. “That is normal. We are getting the plant ready again.”

“We are fixing, surely there will be some unscheduled stoppages of some teams for a few hours and we are going to fix them and when there are scheduled stoppages we will notify them,” he said.

The plant returned to operation in 2021 after being stopped due to damage to its equipment.
