How much do the RD Customs collections amount to?

Motor vehicles and tractors lead the tariff chapters that contributed the most to the collections of the General Directorate of Customs (DGA) during the first quarter of 2022.

According to the preliminary collection results of the DGA, the income of this institution amounted to 71,111.65 million pesos, representing a fulfillment of the collection goal of 127.65%, showing a surplus of 15,547.51 million pesos.

Motor vehicles and tractors have a participation of 13.47%, followed by: beverages, alcoholic liquids and vinegars (11.66%); machines and mechanical devices (9.25%); electrical machines and appliances (7.04%); plastic materials and their manufactures (5.64%); foundry, iron and steel (4.98%); ceramic products (3.52%); cast iron or steel manufactures (3.41%); furniture, medical-surgical furniture (2.46%), and paper and cardboard, pulp manufactures (1.94%).

In relation to the vehicle sector, recently the National Association of Vehicle Distributing Agencies (Anadive) reported that during 2021, 100,243 cars were imported into the country with a commercial vocation, of which 82,213 correspond to used units, which represent 80%, while 18,030 were new for 20%.

The president of the entity, César de los Santos, said that there are 2,062,292 utility vehicles for transportation, which means that there is one car for every six inhabitants in the Dominican Republic, and that other societies such as Puerto Rico have one car for every three individuals.

According to the publication on collections from CustomsFor last April, the DGA collected 16,578.02 million pesos, showing at the same time a compliance of 122.16%, which is equivalent to a surplus of 3,007.56 million pesos.

The DGA explains that, when comparing the collections April 2022 versus 2021, an increase of 20.98% can be seen, which corresponds to 2,874.56 million pesos above what was collected in the same month last year.

“This increase in collections of the DGA for the month of April is explained by multiple factors, both by the growth of trade itself, and by the actions and projects that are being carried out in favor of the transversal development of the entire institution, which translates into the levels of exhibited income”, cites the entity in its publication.

Where is it collected?

According to the types of administrations where taxes are collected from the General Directorate of Customs94.22% of the income comes from maritime administrations, 5.62% from air administrations and the remaining 4.16% from land administrations.

The DGA document also states that the Multimodal administrations of Caucedo, Haina, Santo Domingo and Las Américas International Airport account for 95.20% of the total collected.

Also, for the period January-April 2022, of the total tax revenue of the State, the DGA contributed 23.27%, the DGII 71.46% and the remaining 5.27% the National Treasury.
