The tourism in Uruguay it approached pre-pandemic levels in 2022. During the year the presence of Argentines stood out. Nevertheless, Paraguayans were the ones with the highest expenditure per person and per day.
After two seasons marked by covid-19, the Ministry of Tourism returned to publish annual data on outbound and inbound tourism.
In 2022, 2,466,929 visitors entered Uruguay who spent a total of US$ 1,396.7 million. The average stay was 6.2 dayswith an expense per person of US$ 566.2 and US$ 91.2 per day.
Montevideo was the department that received the most visitors. There were 622,662, with an expense of US$ 404 million.
Then it was located east point with 539,287 and the Thermal Coast with 501,246. Punta del Este had an average stay of 8.6 days with an expense of US$1,138.8 per person and US$132.9 per day. The spa was the area with the highest average daily expenditure and per visitor.

Visitors also came from Chile, North America, rest of America and Europe.
The largest number of people who came to the country did so for leisure and vacations.
Compared to 2019, the year before the pandemic, the number of tourists decreased by 23%. The same occurred with total spending, which fell 20.5%.
