The term ‘Ministerial Ready’ It is not alien to the government on duty. Since Gustavo Petro assumed the presidency in 2022, his cabinet has crossed several changes, completing more than 40 appointments to date.

The initial picture was composed of Alfonso Prada (Interior), Álvaro Leyva (Foreign Ministry), José Antonio Ocampo (Hacienda), Néstor Osuna (Justice), Iván Velásquez (Justice), Cecilia López (Agriculture), Carolina Corchcho (Health), Gloria Inés Ramírez (Work), Germán Umaña (Commerce), Alejandro Gaviria (Education), Susana Muhamad (Environment), Catalina Velasco (Housing), Sandra Urrutia (ICT), Guillermo Reyes (Transport), Patricia Ariza (Culture), Arturo Luis Luna (Sciences), María Isabel Urrutia (sport) and, also vice president, France Márquez (Equality).
The first outputs were announced in February 2023, When the Head of State removed three chips from his ministerial train: Alejandro Gaviria (Health), Patricia Ariza (Culture) and María Isabel Urrutia (Sports). From there, several changes in the composition of the government team have been announced.
Rotation has concentrated on the transport portfoliowith four starting changes. These are followed inland, the Treasury, Agriculture, Education, ICT and the Foreign Ministry, with three adjustments, each, as far as Petro’s management.
So far the ministers with more seniority are: Iván Velásquez, Minister of Defense, Susana Muhamad, head of the Environment portfolio, and Gloria Inés Ramírez, head of the Ministry of Labor. The Three have remained at the forefront of their ministries Since the president assumed power in August 2022.
Now, these reorganizations have not only touched the different wallets, but also to other units. In the two years and five months that go from the Petro administration, changes have been presented in the direction of the DIAN, social prosperity and the UNGRD.

Rotation in other governments
While the head of state has readjusted his cabinet on different opportunities, he is not the only one who has made changes in his first two years at the head of the Nariño House. Taking three of its predecessors as a reference, the rotation has been:
-Álvaro Uribe (2002-2006/2006-2010): Throughout his term he made 37 appointments, of which 15 were presented in their first two and a half years of government (until January 2005). In this case, the Executive had 13 ministries.
-Juan Manuel Santos (2010-2014/2014-2018): He made 61 appointments, 29 in two and a half years (until January 2013). At the time, there were 16 wallets.
– Iván Duque (2018-2022): He carried out 40 appointments, 31 until January 2021. In total, there were 18 ministries.
It is important to note that these figures do not contemplate the designations in order (e) and that over the years new portfolios have been added. Currently, in Colombia there are 19.
