How is the Dominican vehicle fleet composed?

The Dominican Republic count with one vehicle fleetat the end of fiscal year 2021, amounting to 5,152,448 units, registering an increase of 6.4% compared to the previous year, equivalent to 310,081 new units.

The data is contained in the Bulletin Vehicle fleet of the Dominican Republic as of December 31, 2021, issued by the General Directorate of Internal Taxes (DGII). In the document the DGII explains that, in terms of the gender of the owners of vehicles who are natural persons, 77.3% correspond to the male, while 22.7% to the female. These same percentages existed in 2020.

As of December 31, 2012, the vehicle fleet amounted to 3,052,686 units, of which 77.6% belonged to males, while the remaining 22.4% belonged to females. This means that, in percentage terms, in the last 10 years the difference between men and women who are registered as owners has been marked.

The vehicle fleet registered as of December 31, 2021 (5,152,4482 units), 55.8% are motorcycles, 20.3% correspond to automobiles11.0% are SUVs and the remaining 12.9% correspond to vehicles cargo and buses, among others.

Most of the vehicles registered belong to the National District, Santo Domingo and Santiago, with a participation of 27.6%, 16.1% and 8.0%, respectively.

It details that 66.4% of the vehicle fleet belongs to individuals, while the remaining 33.6% to legal entities.

Regarding the age of the owner, of the total vehicles registered in the name of natural persons, 31.2% are concentrated in people whose age range is between 56 and over, 24.6% between 46 and 55 years old, and 24.3% between 36 and 45 years old.

17.5% corresponds to people between 26 and 35 years old and the remaining 2.3% to those under 25 years old.

most of vehicles that circulates in the Dominican Republic is of Japanese origin, according to data from the DGII. Excluding motorcycles, 62.9% of the stock from vehicles they are Japanese, followed by Koreans, with a 13.1% share; those of American origin with 11.5%; Europeans with 6.6% and vehicles of other origins represent 5.9%.

Regarding the year of manufacture, predominate the automobiles with years from 2014 backwards, representing 91.0% of the total. For the jeeps, on the other hand, 90.6% corresponds to manufacturing from 2017 backwards.
