What are the approaches that the Ministry will prioritize?

At the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation we have prioritized the focus of research and innovation policies oriented by missions, and we propose a series of missions aligned with the Government’s proposal, with the objectives of sustainable development and the recommendations of the International Mission of wise men These missions include Bioeconomy, natural ecosystems and sustainable territories, with which we want to promote sustainable territorial development through knowledge, conservation and use of biodiversity and its ecosystem goods and services.

How is the country in terms of science and innovation?

In relation to Science, Technology and Innovation (CTeI) capacities, according to the results of the last call for recognition and measurement of Minciencias research groups and researchers, the country has 6,160 research groups and 21,094 researchers recognized in all the areas of knowledge.

What strengths stand out from the job?

There are strengths in the installed capacities that the country has today, mainly in cities such as Bogotá, Medellín, Cali, Barranquilla, and Bucaramanga.

What is the main challenge you have?

As one of the challenges, we need these capacities to be extended to the entire country to contribute to solutions to the problems that the regions have, since science, technology and innovation are an opportunity to achieve a leap in the development of the country. in a sustainable way. The sector has the great challenge of convincing Colombians of the importance of CTeI, of the benefits that can be derived from greater investment in Research and Technological Development (R&D).

What plans do you have to help entrepreneurs?

We support research, technological development and innovation projects that contribute to the solution of problems or real needs in the different productive sectors, through the use of emerging technologies that promote quality, productivity, and knowledge transfer.

How do you see the digital transformation of companies?

Although digital transformation is not a topic specifically for Minciencias, we hope, through different instruments, to consolidate research, technological development and innovation processes supported by the use and exploitation of 4RI technologies, which allow us to solve the different challenges that occur in all productive sectors.

What plans are advanced in schools and universities?

The Minciencias and the Ministry of Education signed an agreement to join efforts to design, develop, strengthen and evaluate science, technology and innovation strategies and activities. Some actions were established to implement a route that stimulates CTeI vocations in girls, boys, adolescents and young people in the country’s institutions and in all modalities.
