During 2021, sales of the production of beverages increased by 27.1% compared to 2020, mainly due to the increase in sales of the “Distillation of alcohol Ethyl”, which had a 37.9% share, the “Manufacture of beer, beverages milkshakes and malt” with 27.0% and the “Manufacture of beverages soft drinks except soda” with a participation of 24.8%.
The data is contained in the “Economic profile of the industry of beverages of the Dominican Republic”, prepared by the Vice Ministry of Industrial Development of the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and MSMEs, where the institution highlights that, in recent years, the growth of 2015 stands out (14.4%), driven mainly by the increase in sales of “Distillation, rectification and mixture of beverages alcoholic drinks”, with a participation of 33.4%, and the “brewing, beverages milkshakes and malt”, with 11.9%.
It indicates that, in 2020, despite the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, sales grew by 2.4%. Also, in 2021, the elaboration of beverages It was the manufacturing subsector that contributed the most to internal collections, representing 33.6%, equivalent to 51,466.7 million pesos.
Likewise, the document indicates that the industry of beverages of the Dominican Republic represents a contribution of around 15,600 jobs and almost 270 companies.
Also, as of December 2021, the food processing industry beverages it has recovered 96.8% of the jobs lost due to the pandemic.
In addition, it states that in the 2007-2020 period, the activity of preparing beverages and tobacco products registered an average real growth of 3.2%. This result was mainly driven by the dynamism in the production of soft drinks (5.7%), beer (1.9%) and rum (0.3%).
According to data from the DGII, the document indicates, as of May 25, 2021, the preparation of beverages comprised a total of 266 industries. Of these, 53.8% is dedicated to the preparation of beverages non-alcoholic beverages and mineral water production, 20.7% to the manufacture of natural juices and fruit and vegetable concentrates, 17.7% to distillation, rectification, mixture of beverages alcoholic beverages and production alcohol ethyl, and 7.9% to winemaking.
Likewise, 93.6% of these industries are locally manufactured, while the remaining 6.4% are industries covered by special regimes.
Regarding the fiscal domicile, the document indicates that 32.3% of the manufacturing industries of beverages they are in the National District, 26.3% in Santo Domingo, 9.0% in Santiago, 4.5% in San Cristóbal and 27.8% in other provinces of the country.
Regarding the size of the companies, 69.5% are micro-enterprises, 14.7% large companies, 13.5% small companies and 2.3% medium-sized companies.
