Household income rises in Montevideo but falls in the interior

The average income of Uruguayan households in current values ​​(without discounting inflation) for the entire country stood at $82,005 at the end of the third quarter and grew 5.8% ($ 4,525) compared to the April-June period, reported the National Institute of Statistics (INE) this Tuesday. For its part, the average per capita income was $29,592 versus $27,952 in the second quarter.

The improvement in household income in current terms was more significant in Montevideo, going from $93,844 in the April-June period to $103,784 in July-September (+10.5%). On the other hand, in the interior it was more moderate and went from $66,247 to $67,229 in the same comparison (+1.4%).

Precisely, at constant prices as of January 2005 (discounting inflation), the average household income fell in the last quarter in the interior of the country, according to INE data. In the July-September period, the estimate was $17,983 for July-September, a slight drop compared to $18,012 in the second half. Instead, in Montevideo it had the opposite behavior and went from $24,629 in the second quarter to $26,688 in the third quarter.

“During the third quarter, the average real income of households grew by 3% in year-on-year terms, driven by Montevideo (+8.3%), which offset the fall in the interior (-1.8%),” wrote the economist Nicolás Cichevski de CPA Ferrere. For its part, the point estimate of the average income per capita of households at constant values for the country as a whole it was estimated at $7,613, which represents $199 higher than the same period in 2021 ($7,414) and $240 lower than the estimate for the previous quarter ($7,373). Also in this case, there was a slight drop in the interior of the country but a rise in Montevideo compared to the previous quarter.
