The federal capital already has everything ready for the inauguration of deputies and senators this Wednesday (1). A security scheme was set up and revised and already has bars installed in front of the Congress, on the Esplanada dos Ministérios.
The purpose of the scheme is to avoid any kind of problem or attempted invasion and break-in like the one that occurred on January 8th. The inauguration of the parliamentarians will be the first mission of the Secretary of Public Security of the Federal District (DF), Sandro Avelar, since the intervention in force in the DF ends tomorrow (31).
Inside Congress, security will also be tightened. With more metal detectors and access restrictions: only for accredited professionals, advisors and family members.
In the Chamber, the inauguration is scheduled for 10 am. At 4:30 pm, the session is scheduled to elect the Board of Directors. So far, in the Chamber there is no officially formalized candidacy, this can be done up to one hour before the election, that is, until 3:30 pm, but the announcements have already been made by the parties. Arthur Lira, from the PP, current president is a candidate for re-election. Chico Alencar from PSOL will also run.
In the Senate, the inaugural session is scheduled for 3 pm. Then, election of the Board, to choose the president. With a session convened for the morning of Thursday (2) to choose the other positions on the table. So far, only Senator Eduardo Girão, from Podemos, has made his candidacy official.
The current president, Rodrigo Pacheco, of the PSD, is also a candidate and has the support of the PDT, PT, Rede and MDB. Even the PT, when it announced its support, said it would do so because of Pacheco’s behavior in defending democracy after the coup attacks on January 8.
The third candidate is Rogério Marinho, from the PL, who has the support of the PP and the Republicans.
The term of office of the Board of Directors is two years. On Thursday, at 3:00 pm, the Senate will hold a formal opening session for the Legislature, when the message sent by President Lula will be read, who can go to Congress in person or send the message through the Chief of Staff, Rui Costa .
