The institution now adds to its long history of recognitions the one recently granted by the Ibero-American Accessible Tourism Network, for having developed capacities to serve all visitors without limitations.
It is the first accommodation in the country to achieve this and, therefore, it marks a path towards the market for people with disabilities, but it does so with outstanding marks because, according to the president of the Network, Diego Javier González, it is currently one of the most accessible in Latin America.
The recognition was granted in the context of the IV Accessible Tourism Summit, which was hosted between December 15 and 17, and according to the entity’s director, Luis Miguel Díaz, celebrating that event was a great opportunity for the installation.
In statements to Prensa Latina, he pointed out that for more than a year they have been working on the elimination of architectural barriers and the creation of conditions for all people, regardless of the disability they live with.
“Many times we think only of motor difficulties, but we have worked to offer an adequate service to those who have other disabilities such as hearing or vision,” he exemplified.
In this sense, he mentioned not only the improvements from the physical and technological point of view, such as the elevators in the pool, the cabaret and the special accessories in rooms and the lobby, but especially the preparation received by the staff in all areas.
“We want them to have a pleasant stay at our hotel without making them feel diminished or discriminated against,” said Díaz, who was happy for the new achievement that came to the doors of the new anniversary.
Regarding the celebrations for the date, he commented that they are distinguished by the commitment of all workers to better service, greater economic and financial profitability, and by the desire to maintain the National as a jewel of the hotel industry in Cuba.
