The Panamanian Association of Hotels -APATEL- and the Association of Small Hotels of Panama -HOPPAN- expressed their extreme concern about the serious impact that the industry suffered during the month of protests last July and that it is still affected by the slow resumption of reservations and movement of tourists.
They assured that the Tourism Authority of Panama is unaware of this situation. They explained that the information gathered by their members in Panama City and the interior of the country on the consequences of the protests and road closures reflect losses between 50% and 60% over the projections for July.
“These figures are very worrying since they represent millionaire economic losses and jobs at risk in an industry that was still suffering the results of government decision-making during the pandemic that made the industry less competitive,” they said.
They detailed that the disconnection with the real situation of the industry on the part of the Tourism Authority and the lack of a short-term reactivation plan to recover tourist demand and the image of the country, due to the month of protests, is worrying and negligent. .
