Colombia beat Peru 2-1 this Saturdayin their first victory in the South American U-20 that they are playing at home.

With a brace from Óscar Cortés, the coffee growers prevailed at the Pascual Guerrero stadium in Cali (southwest) and remained partial leaders of group A.

Dieter Vásquez discounted for the Peruvian team, a result that placed them in second place in the so-called “group of death”, where Brazil and Argentina also compete for the title.

After a run over start and without emotion, Peru opened the scoring. After a goal kick by Sebastián Amasifuen, the ball stung and ended up at the feet of Jeffrey Cabellos, who in turn assisted Vásquez Soto. The attacker lobbed Kevin Mantilla and then finished off to hit goalkeeper Luis Miguel Marquinez with a bouncing ball.

The turn of the “coffee growers” came towards the end of the first half. The leader Gustavo Puerta recovered a ball, He rolled it all over the center, getting his rivals out of the way and sent a perfect pass to Óscar Cortés. The midfielder tied the score with a mid-distance whiplash that was impossible for the Peruvian goalkeeper.

The “Incas” had dominated the first part of the game, against imprecise and lukewarm “coffee growers” in attack.

But the passage through the showers gave a new air to the hosts who squandered several golden opportunities, until they finally conceded the winning goal.

A corner kick from Gustavo Puerta aimed directly at Óscar Cortés who struck down the rival goal in turn and defined the final score 2-1.

The Colombian artillery this time did not miss the star Jhon Jáder Durán, who had to leave the call to appear with his new team, Aston Villa of England.

Peru was injured after losing 3-0 to Brazil while Colombia had tied 1-1 with Paraguay.

Earlier this Saturday, the Guarani beat Argentina 2-1. Brazil rested on the second day of Group A.

The first three classified in the group will play the final hexagonal in Bogotá to dispute the title, one of the four places in the World Cup in Indonesia and one of the three tickets to the Pan American Games in Santiago-2023.
