Passing commemorative dates at the hospital is not easy, especially for children who certainly prefer to be at home, receiving the bunny visit on Easter Sunday. But professionals and volunteers who work in children’s units throughout Brazil strive to soften this distance and bring joy to the little ones and their families.
In Rio de Janeiro, public hospitals from the state and municipal network prepared special programming for the date. The Easter Rabbit in Person visited the children’s beds of Getúlio Vargas State Hospitalin the north of the capital. With the help of the nursing staff, she distributed chocolate boxes, chocolate lollipops, candies, coloring pads and crochet bunny, made manually by the nursing technique Telma de Souza.
“I put myself in place of mothers who are accompanying hospitalized patients. All that can be done to give joy to the little ones is rewarding,” said the professional.
Valentina Guimarães, 7, admitted to the pediatric CTI to recover from a bronchitis, has even given the bunny name she won, Talia.
“Change, I’m full of chocolate! I’m going to take home to share with my brother Téo,” celebrated the little one.
At Nova Iguaçu General Hospital in Baixada Fluminense, the bunny visit was made in partnership with medical students, who promoted play with the children and distributed chocolates.
Larissa Cristina, who accompanies her daughter Maria Luiza, 5, was thrilled with the party.
“We were not waiting, and her reaction was the best possible. She was so happy, laughed, played with the rabbit. This moment will surely be kept forever in our memories.”

In the neonatal units, the party was designed to bring joy to the hearts of family members. At Camaçari’s regional maternity hospital in Bahia, a special breakfast was prepared for mothers and hospitalized babies got bunny and a themed photo shoot. Two of the models were Abner and Asher, premature twins of Inglid dos Santos.
“The support of other mothers and the maternity team is what helps you go through this process. If it wasn’t why, I don’t know what would be for us,” says the mother.
“It is a way to build family ties within the unit, although the routine is challenging. When we speak of integral care, we also talk about the mental health of the mother, who need to feel welcomed, heard and respected in this process of fragility,” explains Meury Rodrigues, psychologist of unity.
A similar action was taken at the General Hospital of Fortaleza, with one detail: Eva’s ears, used by the little ones at the time of the photos were made by the mothers themselves, in a workshop.
One of these mothers is Valdenia Alves, who accompanies her daughter Marielly, born prematurely.
“It’s an opportunity to be more with her, I do it with all the love.”
Easter’s photo shoot is so celebrated by families that has already become tradition at the Central Sertão Regional Hospital in Quixeramobim, Ceará. Professionals prepare a whole scenario, with sterilized items and evaluated by the hospital infection control service.
“I didn’t imagine it was at all to have this beautiful rehearsal here! Pedro Átila [fotógrafo] It is bringing me a lot of happiness, and it is great to be able to keep a souvenir of him like this, with such affection, while we are still here at the hospital, ”celebrated mother Janila Araújo.
