The Panama Solidario Integrated Hospital located in Albrook, currently maintains a bed availability of 25% with an occupancy of 75%, indicated the medical director of this center enabled for the care of Covid-19 patients, Rita Aguilar.
Since its opening in June 2020, a total of 1,828 patients have been admitted for care, of which 78% have recovered, around 15% have died, and the other 7% were transferred to another facility to receive other services than were available at the time, Aguilar said.
He argued that most of the profile of patients admitted to this facility are moderate to severe with severe lung pathologies, which require some type of mechanical ventilation or significant oxygen supplementation with special equipment.
He explained that the hospital currently has 37 mechanical fans and an approximate availability of 20; He stressed that the installation has a tomograph (specialized equipment for diagnostic imaging), monitors, among other very high-tech equipment.
He mentioned that an important factor that has been observed is that a considerable percentage of patients who are admitted with very severe complications do not have a complete vaccination schedule or have not applied any dose against Covid-19.
At the same time, he stressed that those who have been admitted with their full doses have managed to recover satisfactorily and pointed out that if any of them have presented complications, it has been because they suffer from a comorbidity.
“If there has been an impact within the patients and the population after vaccination; a before and an after”, affirmed Aguilar.
