Horacio Duarte leaves Customs; he announces that he will go "to the master battle" in Edomex

Horacio Duarte and Higinio Martínez are identified as the alleged “political godparents” of who will be Morena’s candidate to compete for the second time for the governorship of the State of Mexico.

This is the second resignation that occurs in the team of President Andrés Manuel López Obrador in less than a week. Last Thursday, Tatiana Clouthier presented the letter of reasons for her to leave the ownership of the Ministry of Economy.

Duarte Olivares reported that during his period at the head of the National Customs Agency, an increase in collection was achieved. The last year of the government of Enrique Peña Nieto, 949.275 million pesos were collected, while in 2021 more than 1,000 million pesos were collected.

Although he did not specify the total numbers, the former official stated that 97.9% more handguns have been secured than in Felipe Calderón’s six-year term and 59.8% compared to the Enrique Peña Nieto government. As for long weapons, the increases are 187% and 106% compared to the same six-year terms.

Currently the National Customs Agency (ANAM) has 6,960 elements, including the personnel of the Ministry of National Defense and the Navy. It is expected that 2,297 more members of the Armed Forces will join this year.
