At the University of Cartagena, La Merced campus, where the ashes of the Nobel Prize for Literature, Gabriel García Márquez, are located, the President of the Republic, Gustavo Petro Urrego, received the Doctorate Honoris Causa recognition from the Council of Rectors, of which eight universities from the Caribbean region are part.
This delivery was granted to the president of the Colombians for his invaluable contributions to Colombia in public management, especially in Bogotá, when he was Mayor of the capital of the Republic.

“I like receiving this title today, I like it because I walked here as a child through these bustling corridors of youth that they wanted to learn from what they read from Gabriel García Márquez, not only the beauty of words, but the paths of the revolution, when we wanted to be libertarians”, indicated Petro.
For his part, Jairo Torres Oviedo, president of the SUE Caribe, pointed out that “this honorary title has double value, since it will be conferred on President Petro by the public university as a whole, with a presence in the Caribbean region, his homeland.”

The eight public universities of the Caribbean State University System that awarded this recognition are: the University of Córdoba, the University of Sucre, the University of Cartagena, the University of Magdalena, the Technological University of Chocó, the University of the Atlantic, the Popular University of Cesar and the University of The Guajira.
