The Ministry of Health of Honduras reported this week that the number of Nicaraguans vaccinated at the immunization posts, which were installed on the border with Nicaragua, already exceeds 51,000.
“According to statistical data collected to date (11/01/21), 51 016 have been vaccinated with the first dose of Moderna vaccine, 16 people with the first dose of Pfizer vaccine and 72 people with the second dose of Pfizer for a total of 51 126 Nicaraguans inoculated ”, they detail.
The vaccination of Nicaraguans at the border posts of La Fraternidad and Guasaule is for two weeks this Thursday; however, this week the number of citizens has been reduced. A family from Managua who traveled this Tuesday told CONFIDENCIAL that the number of people was less compared to other days.
According to the Nicaraguans, they arrived at the La Fraternidad vaccination post at dawn and, although the day was scheduled to start at 8:00 am, Health personnel decided to start two hours later to give the opportunity for more people to arrive. Upon arrival there was a line of between 200 and 300 people. In the previous weeks, the lines were up to five kilometers long, according to the Honduran Ministry of Health.
The displacement of Nicaraguans to Honduras intensified after the Ortega government confirmed that the population under 30 years of age would be vaccinated with doses of Sputnik Light; meanwhile, children and adolescents with the Cuban vaccines Soberana 02 and Abdala, which are not approved by the World Health Organization (WHO) and have not concluded their study phases either.
Minsa offered AstraZeneca vaccine to young people
The Ministry of Health (Minsa) offered, during this weekend, to young people over 18 years of age, the opportunity to choose between Sputnik Light and AstraZeneca, in some health posts and centers in the country. This was an express decision that was not reported by the authorities publicly, but was soon disclosed through social media.
However, CONFIDENCIAL learned of several young people who tried to get vaccinated with AstraZeneca, between Tuesday and Wednesday of this week, in the same positions where they were inoculating with both vaccines and they were informed that they only applied the first dose of Sputnik Light and the second of AstraZeneca.
According to the vaccination data published by the Minsa, through the official media El 19 DigitalBetween October 25 and November 3, 526,714 people were vaccinated with single doses of Sputnik Light and also with doses of AstraZeneca. However, it does not detail how many are for each one.
Meanwhile, 593 153 children over two years of age and adolescents up to 17 years of age received the first, of three doses, of the Soberana O2 and Abdala vaccines. The Minsa also reports that the Sputnik Light vaccines are applied to those over 30 years of age, who were not yet immunized, but the total number of doses administered at the national level is unknown.
They will bring vaccination to markets and neighborhoods
In addition, The Minsa announced this Wednesday that they will expand vaccination points throughout the country. Until now, only 1,087 were enabled, which includes health centers and posts; where children, adolescents and those over 18 are vaccinated with the first dose, while in parallel they apply the second dose to people who were vaccinated before October 1.
“As of today (Wednesday) we have increased 432 new vaccination posts, that added to the 1087 already established, we have a total of 1519 vaccination posts ”, detail.
According to the Health authorities, they will now vaccinate in all the country’s hospitals (primary, departmental, regional and national) and will open stalls in markets, health fairs in the neighborhoods.
They also formed “itinerant vaccination brigades that will be located in base houses and neighborhoods or communities that are holding health fairs ”.
For its part, the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) reported that the Ministry of Health applies the doses of the different types of vaccines available, prioritizing those that are close to expiring. This would explain why they have not yet applied the doses of Sinopharm that arrived in the country at the end of September.
