Tijuana, BC., The murders of journalists Lourdes Maldonado and Margarito Martínez are not linked; in the first case, there are no indications that it is associated with his journalistic work, and in the second, a line of investigation indicates that the crime would have been ordered by the drug dealing, said the state prosecutor, Iván Carpio Sánchez.
Regarding the photojournalist’s case, he commented that it is possible that his murder had something to do with a drug cartel. We have information that indicates that possibility, we are not ruling it out. We are already in contact with the Specialized Prosecutor’s Office of the Attorney General’s Office to review the case and see if it is understood as an event that goes against press freedom.
, settled Carpio Sánchez.
The prosecutor indicated that they will focus on other areas of Maldonado’s life to reach the material and intellectual authorship of his death. He revealed that at least three hit men participated in the murder and also that there are no indications to link the crime with the labor conflict that the journalist won over a company of former Governor Jaime Bonilla, but he clarified that they cannot rule out any line of investigation.
Maldonado was in the state mechanism for the protection of journalists, which it did not fail
, Just was insufficient
