Homicides increase in 3 of the 9 strategic states for the federal government

According to figures from the Executive Secretariat of the National Public Security System (SESNSP), 19,261 of the 30,693 malicious homicides registered between January and November 2021, 62%, occurred in nine states. Therefore, on August 13, 2021, the federal government began the Comprehensive Strengthening of the Security Strategy of the Mexican State to give them priority attention.

When the number of homicides registered in July, prior to the start of this strategy, is compared with those of November, the latest data from the SESNSP, six states report a decrease and another three increases.

The states where crimes increased are Zacatecas, Quintana Roo and the State of Mexico.

Before the end of the year, the president assured that his strategy is yielding results in eight of the nine states, except in the State of Mexico, governed by the PRI Alfredo del Mazo.

“The truth is that this year in homicides, even if it is little, we are achieving a decrease,” said the president in his conference on December 28.

The president said that Zacatecas was an example that the strategy was working. However, according to official figures, that state governed by the Morenista David Monreal ended the year with an average of 4.1 homicides per day, but at the start of 2022, the average is 5.9 events every 24 hours.

In recent days, the state has been the scene of 59 homicides, including the discovery of 10 bodies that were abandoned in the Plaza de Armas of the state capital.
