To avoid being victims of violence, some Mexicans have chosen not to go out at night, to travel with double cell phones (one of them for the assailant), and even with bladed weapons to defend themselves.
Over the past year, there have been 19 daily victims of robbery in public transport, without counting, which is a crime with a dark figure of more than 90%, according to the SESNSP.
On the other hand, a significant percentage of businesses in the State of Mexico are subject to floor collection schemes. Merchants have been forced to pay monthly fees, which according to experts can range from 2,500 to 100,000 pesos to organized crime organizations or supposed “protection” groups. 2022 closed with 4,411 complaints, the highest figure in the entire six-year term of the PRI member Alfredo del Mazo, although in this crime there is also a very high black figure.
Part of the violence that affects the State of Mexico is due to the dispute between groups such as “La Familia Michoacana”, “Los Caballeros Templarios”, the “Jalisco Nueva Generación Cartel” (CJNG) and “Guerreros Unidos”, as well as others 20 local criminal groups.
“In the State of Mexico it is more important to talk about security because the presence of criminal organizations such as La Familia Michoacán in various areas of the State of Mexico, Jalisco Nueva Generación, Guerreros Unidos in certain certain municipalities,” adds Sanchez Valdes.
In this regard, public security expert David Saucedo explained in an interview with Political Expansion that for criminal organizations, Mexican lands are key not only because of the resources they obtain from extortion, but also from drug dealing activities.
“In the State of Mexico there is a dispute over the control of bars, nightclubs, party halls, canteens, clubs, where drugs are sold to drug dealers. For a long time there has been a dispute between criminal groups to seize the points of sale in the state, it is an appetizing loot derived from the profits they obtain from the sale of drugs, ”he said.
