Havana Cuba. – He severe shortages of drugs and supplies that afflicts the Cuban Public Health system has reached another level. Stomatology clinics have begun to use homeopathic medicines instead of anesthesia to perform dental extractions, because, supposedly, the country does not have the money to buy it.
This new modality of Traditional Natural Medicine has been applied in Colón, Matanzas province, and the official press has presented it as a resounding success, because it produces “deep analgesia in which the patient perceives all the surgical manipulation, but does not feel pain.”
The report, published in the digital edition of the local radio station Radio Colón, explains that “the homeopathic drops are administered diluted in water, little by little, between 15 or 20 minutes before extraction. Just before the surgical procedure, another five sublingual drops are applied and the same amount when the extraction is finished”.
Regarding the new technique for dental extraction, Osdanay Cabrera González, a specialist in Comprehensive General Stomatology, stated that “it is very beneficial for patients with heart disease, hypertension, diabetes, or for those who have a phobia of needles.”
The publication was accompanied by the testimony of María del Carmen, a seventy-year-old hypertensive patient who agreed to undergo the procedure with the homeopathic method. The lady herself declared that she had perceived “a strange sensation, but nothing that cannot be endured”.
Both in the Stomatology Department of the Carlos J. Finlay polyclinic, and in the 27 de noviembre clinic, both in Colón, this method is used which, according to the station’s note, “has proven effectiveness and benefits, including a postoperative process usually without complications.
For more than a decade, homeopathy has been considered one of the ten modalities of Traditional Natural Medicine applied in the country, although several specialists have expressed concern about the insufficient research that addresses the subject in depth.
The World Health Organization (WHO) recognizes that homeopathy is widely used, and has proposed that countries regulate its use to avoid complications. However, it has never recognized that a homeopathic product is effective in curing any disease.
