Paraguayan exports totaled 13,875.0 million dollars in 2022, 1.5% less than the previous year, due to the drop in sales of products such as soybeans and sesame seeds, the issuing bank reported Thursday. .

According to the Foreign Trade Report of the Central Bank of Paraguay (BCP), exports of soybeans -a product that leads the country’s export offer- fell 58.8% in value and 64.1% in terms of volume.

Between January and December of last year, foreign soybean sales totaled 1,226.8 million dollars and represented 2,272.7 tons.

Soybean crops were affected last year by the strong drought that devastated the Paraguayan territory, as a consequence of the La Niña phenomenon.

Argentina and Brazil are the largest markets for Paraguayan soybeans, with a share of 79.8% and 14.8%respectively.

Besides, meat exports showed a positive behavior, reaching 1,842.2 million dollars at the end of 2022, 11.3% more than the 1,655.8 million dollars registered in 2021.

The volume of meat exported increased by 5.6% with respect to the previous year.

Official figures indicate that Chile, with a 39% share, was the main destination for Paraguayan meat. Sales to that country amounted to 727.7 million dollars, 2.3% more than in 2021.

Russia was the second destination for Paraguayan meat, although its purchases -which amounted to 300.6 million dollars- fell 10.4% in 2002 compared to 2021.

Besides, The BCP indicated that Paraguayan imports grew by 16.1% in 2022, with a total of 15,191.4 million dollars.

28.9% of Paraguayan imports, worth 4,222.4 million dollars, came from China, while 23.9% from Brazil and 9.7% from the US.
