The Ministry of Culture declared the Holy Week of Contumazá, in the province of the same name, in the Cajamarca region, Cultural Heritage of the Nation.
The decision recognizes its cultural and spiritual importance and its status as a representative expression of local identity, as established in Vice-Ministerial Resolution No. 000008-2026-VMPCIC/MC, published in the official newspaper El Peruano.
The celebration remembers the main passages of the last days of Jesus Christ and is characterized by a complex ritual organization that combines religious devotion and cultural tradition.
In Contumazá, the activities are carried out with special solemnity and last for several days, becoming a living manifestation of the country’s cultural diversity.
The celebrations begin before Palm Sunday and continue until after Holy Saturday, with daily events dedicated to different religious images.
