Hole in the Panamericana will be repaired on #20Jul, according to Minister of Transportation

In addition to the collapse in the Panamericana, the head of Transportation spoke about the hole that was registered in the Lara-Zulia highway. He said that work began to repair a collapsed pipe, which was what caused the collapse

The Minister of Transportation, Ramón Velásquez Araguayán, reported on Monday, July 18, in his social networks that the work to recover the sewage system and the asphalt layer in a sector of kilometer 1 of the Pan-American Highway, which connects Caracas with Los Teques, is 70% complete.

Velásquez Araguayán stressed that by Wednesday, July 20, traffic will be restored through the aforementioned road artery, after several days of continuous work in the area and which forced the intervention of the authorities in the two Pan-American canals.

That same Monday the 18th, but earlier, Minister Velásquez mentioned that they had 48 hours working to repair the situation on the Pan-American Highway and that “important progress” had been made.

He took advantage of his social networks to report on the hole that opened on the Lara-Zulia highway (at the height of the toll of El Venado), which restricted vehicular traffic on that road.

He affirmed that work began to evaluate what caused the sinking in the area described above, located at kilometer 192 of the Lara-Zulia highway, and revealed that the cause of the opening of the hole was the collapse of an “important pipeline”.

He stressed that as of this Tuesday, July 19, work will begin to replace the damaged pipe and restore the asphalt layer of the highway that connects Zulia with the state of Lara.

Meanwhile, he commented, that there are two alternate routes to this highway: one is through the Machango sector, Zulia-Lara direction and the other through the La Arepa sector, in the opposite direction.

Venezuela has 94,429 kilometers of road network. In the last 20 years, Venezuelan roads went from being, in the 1970s, one of the most advanced in Latin America to one of the most deteriorated in the 21st century; said the civil engineer Isandra Villegaslast February in the forum «Public services, crises and solutions».

“Venezuela needs to maintain existing roads, complete unfinished works, build new highways, enhance and develop other means of transportation such as the railway with the aim of promoting efficient logistics awareness,” said Villegas.
