Hitmen assassinate a Nicaraguan who was summoned to trial for selling drugs in Limón

A Nicaraguan identified as Andrés Corea Cabrera, 41, died riddled with several bullet wounds on Thursday morning, March 9, while having breakfast in a soda called La Cabaña, in the center of Limón, Costa Rica.

According to the bullet casings found, the criminals used AK-47 and AR-15 weapons to shoot Andrés Corea Cabrera. Rescuers arrived at the scene, but the subject was declared lifeless at the site.

The suspects immediately fled in a light-colored vehicle. No other people were injured on the premises. The Judicial Investigation Agency (OIJ) went to the site to carry out the removal of the body and collect evidence for the investigation.

The authorities confirmed that Korea was accused in a trial that is taking place in the Limón Courts, 250 meters from where he was murdered, which was scheduled to restart on Thursday morning.

The Limón Criminal Court specified that the Nicaraguan was accused in case 11-200563-0472-PE, in which five people are being tried for the crime of selling drugs, reports the Costa Rican media.

In addition, he pointed out that in view of the murder of Andrés Corea, the trial, which had begun in February, was rescheduled to continue on March 15. It was mentioned in the community that this trial was originally domiciled in Sarapiquí de Heredia and that it had been moved to Limón for security reasons, but the Prosecutor’s Office ruled out that version.

At the moment, it is not known that there are any detainees associated with the murder of the Nicaraguan. Between January 1 and Thursday March 9, 2023, the OIJ counted 160 homicides, 28 more than the same period of the previous year. Limón is the second province with the most murders (37), only surpassed by San José with 44.
