Hispanic Majority in Paterson Ratifies Support for Méndez for Mayor

PATERSON, New Jersey.- During a last poll carried out this weekend by this reporter among Hispanic voters in this city of Paterson, the majority ratified their support for Alex Méndez for mayor of the region.

“Hispanics once again reaffirm our support for Méndez because he presents the best municipal program among the other candidates to benefit local residents in housing, education, immigration, health, food, citizenship and citizen security, among other things,” they specify.

They maintain that it is common to see the candidate resolving situations of people with limited resources, defending the interests of the people, visiting nursing homes, schools, clubs, community organizations, and he has been doing this for many years.

The opinions were collected from dozens of Hispanics (Dominicans being the ethnic group with the greatest presence in the population) on Main, Broadway and Madison avenues, as well as on Lafayette, Market, 21st, 24th and 33rd streets, among others.

According to the last census, Paterson has more than 160 thousand inhabitants, and 65% are Hispanic, mainly Dominicans, then Peruvians, Puerto Ricans, Colombians, Mexicans and Salvadorans, among other ethnic groups.

Méndez has received the support of influential Hispanic personalities, who have been making contact and sending messages to their family, friends and associates in Paterson to come out and vote for him this Tuesday.

Among them are the former Major League player, Luis Poland; the famous Dominican artist and current senator of the DR, Héctor Acosta (El Torito); Doctors Félix Antonio Cruz Jiminián and Luis Cruz; the mayors Héctor Radhamés Francisco and Manuel Pantalio, from Los Hidalgos-Puerto Plata and Bayaguana, respectively.

In addition, the lawyers Tomás Rodríguez, Wilson Suárez and Miguelina de Hernández; the engineers Raúl Báez, Ernesto Ruiz and Claudio del Orbe, and Manuel -Manny- Burgos, president of the Puerto Plata Provincial Committee in the United States, (COPROPUSA).

Likewise, from many other professionals, businessmen, community members, merchants, young people, housewives, taxi drivers, drivers, and ordinary citizens, among other sectors.

Other candidates who aspire are André Sayegh, who seeks to be re-elected in office; Mike Jackson, Luis Velez and Aslon Goow. To all of them, Méndez takes a significant percentage of the will of the voters, as the latest polls show.
