The Youth and Student Unit (UJE) joined the demand of opposition groups and human rights defenders for the release of Monsignor Rolando Álvarez, a political prisoner of the Ortega regime.
UJE recalled that the bishop of the Diocese of Matagalpa as “Nicaraguan pastor” is unjustly imprisoned, sentenced on February 10 to 26 years in prison for alleged conspiracy against the homeland.

They also stressed that “his smile – of Monsignor Álvarez – gives us hope and from UJE we believe that his work for peace in Nicaragua deserves to be recognized.”
They also affirmed that the prelate is deserving of the Nobel Peace Prize “for his work and struggle, defending the rights of the Nicaraguan people.”
