Hiring of temporary workers should grow from November in Rio

The months of November and December should register the highest number of temporary hires for the end of the year parties, or high season, in the city of Rio de Janeiro. The expected growth is 42.5% for the end of the year and 37.3% for the high season, reveals a survey by the Instituto Fecomércio de Pesquisas e Análises (IFec RJ). According to the survey, the intention of 40.2% of commercial entrepreneurs is that all temporary workers, or almost all, are permanently hired by January 2023. For 29.9% of entrepreneurs in the sector, the trend is take advantage of temporary workers until December this year. According to the survey, 61.8% of merchants said that there is the possibility of permanently hiring workers to increase the number of staff in their companies, 21.3% still do not know if they will hire them and 16.9% will not take advantage of temporary workers.

In all, 21,331 employees will be hired, an average of three temporary employees for six permanent employees per establishment. “In relation to the average number of permanent employees, it is a very significant volume”, João Gomes, director of the IFec RJ, told Agência Brasil today. The salary of each temporary employee will be around R$ 1,437.

The prevailing idea among retailers in Rio de Janeiro is to hire at least one of the three temporary workers. “It is an opportunity for effective formal employment. Of these three, one having a chance of being hired is a very significant move”, said Gomes.

Recovery

The economist highlighted that, last Wednesday (26), the September numbers of the General Register of Employed and Unemployed (Novo Caged) indicated a new recovery, with the generation of 278,085 formal jobs in the country, reaching a record stock of formal jobs. of 42,825,955 jobs with a formal contract. The greatest growth occurred in the service sector, with a balance of 122,562 jobs.

“Nevertheless, there is a good prospect of temporary workers in a very significant volume, which calls attention”, commented the economist, noting that this is in line with other surveys by the IFec RJ, which point to a favorable outlook for the coming months. According to Gomes, employment acceleration was already expected in the second half of the year and, since September, the numbers began to improve. “And job consolidation helped a lot in this process.”

According to a survey by the Instituto Fecomércio de Pesquisas e Análises, 60% of respondents do not intend to have temporary employees for the holiday season, or high season, against 27.9% who said they will and 12.2% who have not yet decided.

The survey also shows that 59.1% of the entrepreneurs presented as the main reason for not hiring temporary workers to have a sufficient number of employees. “There is a very good chance of [a decisão] have been due to the evolution of formal employment that is being observed”. High operating cost and economic uncertainty were reasons mentioned by 18.2% each.

João Gomes also highlighted that the historical average of permanent employees with which the institute worked was always five. “And surprisingly, we observed six in this research. Another survey, carried out by the Shopkeepers’ Club of Rio de Janeiro (CDLRio) and by the Shopkeepers’ Union of the Municipality of Rio de Janeiro (SindilojasRio), which surveyed 300 companies in the clothing and children’s fashion, footwear, jewelry, and jewelry, optics, electronics, stationery, furniture and toys, found that retail stores in the city of Rio de Janeiro should hire around 12,000 temporary workers for the end-of-year festivities, 2,000 more than last year.

For the president of CDLRio and SindilojasRio, Aldo Gonçalves, the result of the survey reflects the expectation of sales for Christmas, which is the great commemorative date for the commerce, representing 30% of the year’s revenue. “Also because it precedes the high season of summer, which is the most important season for the Carioca economy, when the city receives a large number of tourists from the country and abroad, who come to enjoy the end-of-year festivities, the beaches and Carnival. ”. The combination of these factors motivated the estimate of hiring temporary workers, 2 thousand more than last year”, reinforced Gonçalves.

Of the 300 shopkeepers consulted, 45% answered the possibility of hiring for the holiday season, 35% are undecided, 10% do not intend to hire and 10% are thinking of paying overtime, if necessary. Among those interviewed, 10% revealed that they have already hired, 75% should hire in November and 15% in December.

Of the total vacancies, 40% represent the first job; the predominant age group is from 18 to 35 years old; 60% of those hired will occupy sales positions, 10% will be cashiers, 10% stockists, 7.5% supervisors, 6% sales assistants, 4.5% inventory assistants and 2% assemblers, delivery men and assistants.

The survey also shows that 40% of the entrepreneurs consulted do not intend to hire temporary workers after the holiday period, 20% said they will hire and 40% said that the decision depends on the movement of sales.
