Mejía assured journalists that he visited former President Medina because he was afflicted with coronavirus and because he believes in dialogue as part of democracy. He understands that the Dominican nation requires dialogue.
“I am convinced that Dominican society requires dialogue and requires that we sit down, those of us who have some leadership, so as not to lead the country to a useless and sterile discussion. When asked if he believed that in the future the ruling Modern Revolutionary Party (DRP), of which he is a member, and the opposition Dominican Liberation Party (PLD) would go to a meeting, the former president is confident that this will happen.
He gave as an example that in the past the former presidents of the Republic Juan Bosch (PLD) and Joaquín Balaguer, from the Social Christian Reform Party (PRSC), met and reached an agreement despite their enmity.
