AREQUIPA, Peru – Cuban dictator Miguel Díaz-Canel spoke virtually at the 11th Extraordinary Summit of Heads of State and Government of ALBA-TCP, an opportunity he used to support Nicolás Maduro after the “victory achieved on June 28” and to denounce the “uncivilized, violent and fascist stance” of the Venezuelan opposition.

“At this time, once again we are called by conscience and solidarity. (…) We are very aware of the grave danger that the unitary project that this alliance represents is in, and also of the value of the statements of solidarity that all of our America owes to sister Venezuela,” said Díaz-Canel, praising the group created by Hugo Chavez together with Fidel Castro, and made up of governments sympathetic to the dictatorships in the region.

The island’s leader, one of the first allies of Chavismo to congratulate Maduro after the July 29 elections, declared that Caracas faces “a gross campaign of discredit” that “seeks to mask another coup attempt.”

“These are times of unity and firmness against imperialism and the oligarchies that take advantage of the slightest opportunity to threaten the victory and stability of every popular-oriented force,” said Díaz-Canel.

The statements collected by the state agency Latin Press They show how the Cuban dictator avoided mentioning the claims of thousands of Venezuelans who denounce the fraud committed by Maduro and the pro-government National Electoral Council (CNE), which a month after the elections has still not published the minutes that prove the Chavista victory.

“It is not possible to remain indifferent to the calculated coordination of regional oligarchies, imperialism, communications empires and digital platforms against Venezuela,” he said.

To date, the organization Criminal Forum The country has verified and recorded some 1,674 arrests by the Chavista regime, while at least 20 deaths have also been reported as part of the post-election crisis. However, Díaz-Canel expressed at the event his admiration for Caracas’ ally, especially for “the serenity, the high democratic sense and vocation for peace (…) in responding to provocations.”

During this XI Summit, ALBA-TCP called on the international community to respect “the democratic will of the people” of Venezuela, a joint statement signed by Cuba, Bolivia, Nicaragua, Dominica, Antigua and Barbuda, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Grenada, Saint Lucia and Venezuela.

Meantime, the Venezuelan opposition called for a new demonstration next Wednesday, one month before the elections.

“Act kills a sentence! That is why, when a month has passed since our glorious victory, in which Edmundo González was elected President, we Venezuelans are once again in the streets. This August 28th; as a family, with your children, with your grandchildren and with your act in hand, we ratify that Act Kills Sentence. Every day we are stronger and we will go all the way!!” reads the call distributed on the platforms and by opposition leaders.

On Saturday, the governments of Brazil and Colombia They reiterated in a statement who are still awaiting “the dissemination, by the National Electoral Council, of the minutes broken down by voting table.”

“The political normalization of Venezuela requires the recognition that there is no lasting alternative to peaceful dialogue and democratic coexistence in diversity,” insists the joint statement by Lula and Petro, who, while calling for avoiding repression, criticize the US sanctions against the Maduro regime.
